Didactic Education

Over the course of my schooling I was exposed to a variety of different elements of pediatric physical therapy and healthcare. Over the summer of 2020 I was required to take PTA Pathology Concepts (10-524-105) we explored pediatric conditions like congenital hip dislocation, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, and slipped capital femoral epiphysis. We also covered briefly covered; Down Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, and poliomyelitis. During the fall of 2020, I completed PTA - Principals of Neuro Rehab (10-524-144) were we learned about typical and atypical development in the pediatric populations. The class provided a deeper dive in pediatric conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, and Down Syndrome

Practical Exam #2 - 94/100

During my practical exam, I was given the scenario of treating a 15-year-old male s/p ankle sprain for my second practical exam in Musculoskeletal Rehab. I was provided a case review with the patient assessment, plan of care, and the patient's long term goals. After a brief review of the case, I was able to use my critical thinking skills to provide skilled physical therapy assessments, interventions, and education for this active teenager. This practical was also graded on my patient interaction and demonstrated communication geared to the adolescent patient.

Pediatric Capstone Project -

The pediatric capstone project provided me with a chance to bring together all of the course work and education I have learned over my PTA studies. I was required to provide concepts in pathologies, PT interventions, data collection, typical/atypical development, developmental tests, and health & wellness for pediatric/adolescent populations including special patient populations.
