Adult Didactic Summary

As a Physical Therapist Assistant student, a large portion of my studies dealt with treating the general adult population. We covered musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, and neurological aspects of physical therapy. In the spring of 2020, I completed the course; PTA Therapeutics Modalities (10-524-143). This class covered the concepts and use of modalities, including e-stim (TENS, HVGS, IFC, NMES), ultrasound, traction, intermittent compression, and a review of physical agents. Fall 2020, I completed PTA Principals of Neuromuscular Rehabilitation (10-524-144). The course work for this class included studies in the nervous system, sensory system, motor control & learning, assessment of tone, posture, and gait, PNF concepts. Traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, cardiovascular accidents, and adult neuromuscular disorders were covered in the course.

IAP #5 Ultrasound 100/100
This IAP paper covered the concepts for use of ultrasound and the review of a research article on the efficacy of therapeutic ultrasound in treatment of adhesive capsulitis on adult patients aged 41-77. Completion of this project provided learning opportunities in concepts of pathology of adhesive capsulitis, PT interventions of ultrasound, data collection, and the promotion of health & wellness in an adult population. I was required to compete two therapeutic applications of ultrasound; I included the use of ultrasound for finger scaring affecting ROM of an 18 year old.

Article Review #2 100/100
This article review covered changes in walking speed for adult CVA patients aged between 56.5 - 60.0 years. It is important as PTA to be able use evidence-based practice, this entails the ability to effectively research and review articles for use in clinical practice.
